Can you answer Nicky Rae’s question about ADHD?:
I believe I have either (Adult) ADD or ADHD and I need to go to a doctor to get tested. My insurance does not require a referral so I just need to know what kind of doctor to go to. Please HELP!! Thanks!!!

ADHD Feedback: You would be going to a psychiatrist.
ADHD Feedback: You either have to go to a pychiatrist or a Child or Clinical(if your 18) pychologist and then they will first test you I.Q. then they will give you a Computerized test that tests you for ADD and ADHD. then most of the time you have to see a psychiatrist for at least a year.
ADHD Feedback: As a person who has Learning disabilites and who has three daughters with them I had the younger two tested by neuro-psychologist/psychiatrists as they are trained to test for and evaluate the results of the tests. General psychologist/psychiatrist are trained to test for psychological evaluations not necessarily learning disabilites. So if possible call the nearest teaching hospital and ask for their psychology department and they should be able to direct you to someone who will be able to help you.
ADHD Feedback: A psychologist or psychiatrist or even a licensed clinical social worker should be able to help you. However, if you are experiencing mental health problems, try to go in with an open mind about getting help, rather than just going in thinking “I have ADHD.” There are a lot of mental health conditions that may be confused with ADHD or overlap with ADHD behaviors (for example, obsessive-compulsive disorder). It is best to go in with the attitude of, here is what I am struggling with; how can I get help to function better.
