Can you answer L’s question about ADHD?:
Earlier I took a test like thing for ADHD. You just check yes or no on the questions they ask you. My friend told me I have some signs (she has ADHD) so I decided to take a test. I was just wonder what 75 out 90 was? Is that ok or what?

ADHD Feedback: Well,I don’t know what test you took, but considering that a 75/90 is like an 83%, you might want to make an appointment with your doctor and talk to him/her about it.
ADHD Feedback: It’s hard to say.
The test may just be an indicator that you *might* have ADHD. There is no real test to tell you whether or not you have it. The thing is, even if you did have it, if you take a test, you may actually be able to focus on the test, and it may not seem like you have it. The reason for this is that ADHD does not entail the INABILITY to focus but rather the INCONSISTENCY of focus.
I know about that on a personal basis because I took a test that was very expensive, and the test said I did not have ADHD. Well, I thought, end of story. Of course, I continued to suffer with school and home life. It wasn’t until my partner was diagnosed with ADHD that he told me that the tests can be wrong for the reason I mentioned (the ability to hyperfocus). The novelty of the situation contributes to this.
Anyway, the only way to diagnose someone with ADHD is to do an in-depth interview with the person. The interview should last a while (typically 30 minutes or longer) and should preferably be done by someone who specializes in ADHD. It’s important to see a qualified mental health professional for a proper diagnosis. Also, it’s important to rule out any other possible diagnosis, such as a thyroid condition. You can do this with a simple blood test through your primary care physician if necessary.
If you think you might have ADHD, I highly recommend the book Driven to Distraction.
Good luck to you!
