My 5 year old is taking concerta for his ADHD but has developed bad itch. How to alleviate?

Can you answer vicmiceluv’s question about ADHD?:

I’ve read that allergy medicine (benadryl) will counteract the concerta. He’s doing better on the meds, wouldn’t like to switch to something else.

I would strongly urge you to let your son’s psychiatrist or treating medical doctor know about this side-effect. I am sure you will get lots of suggestions from other parents, but I would always encourage you to have a discussion with a licensed medical professional when you have any questions about medications and side-effects.

It could be nothing, but then again it could be something. You just never know, and I always urge caution and safety above anything else.

    Hope this helps,

    Dr. Stern
